The focus of
DSTAR is day-to-day engineering issues related to electric power
distribution. DSTAR avoids academic-style research, choosing
instead to concentrate on fast-turnaround investigations of
pragmatic issues. These investigations result in engineering
guidelines and software tools which are directly useable and
applicable to design and procurement standards, operating
procedures, safety issues, and system protection. To the greatest
extent possible, the research activity is based on full-scale
testing and evaluation, which provides highly relevant results.
