Riser Cable Ampacity

There are several aspects of present riser cable rating procedures that lead to questions concerning their accuracy and applicability. First, there are some aspects of the models have not been confirmed with field or laboratory measurements. It is also unknown how well the present rating procedures apply to riser constructions other than cables installed in conduits. This is of importance since many DSTAR members use PVC or painted steel U-guards for riser cable installations. These uncertainties about riser cable rating procedures resulted in a DSTAR field test program for commonly used riser cable constructions. Results of these tests were then used for verification of riser cable rating procedures.
